The SYTYCD Face Off: Which Interpretation do you Like Best?

It’s been a while since I’ve featured some So You Think You Can Dance videos.

I rectify that this week.

A couple of weeks ago, the show showcased the work of its star choreographer, Mia Michaels. This years dancers had to reinterpret routines from previous seasons. One of the routines they picked is one of my favorites about addiction. I posted it on my blog back in June.

Two new dancers took on this routine and put their own spin on it. I’m including both below (the original is up first). You be the judge: Which couple do you like best and why?

Enjoy!

If you love dancing, be sure to check back the week of September 17th and see as I countdown my five favorite DWTS routines leading up to the new season of Dancing With the Stars: All Stars, premiering Monday, September 24th.

  1. Petra says:

The Original most definitely! While Cole gives a convincing performance, he reminds me more of an evil puppeteer than the possession of addiction. Kupono still rocks with his demonic looks straight to camera.

  2. The original, hands down. I agree with what Petra said. I thought both dancers played their parts better. In fact, Kupono almost seemed more like a benefactor, and the anguish in Kalya’s performance was almost tangible. I haven’t seen SYTYCD in several years; now I realize how much I’ve been missing.

    • Leah, welcome back! :-) the second dance is mesmerizing and there is something about Cole’s emptiness and Lindsey’s desperation. But they feel more like a ghost story/horror movie. The first one feels more like the original intent, which is a story of addiction. That’s why it’ll always be my favorite.

What do you think?
